Real Women Have Curves

Real Women Have Curves

Teatro del Pueblo and Lyric Arts Theater present Real Women Have Curves, a poignant production about family, friendship, and latinidad.

Our June 2022 production of Real Women Have Curves told the story of a group of multi-generation Latina women who work in a sewing factory in Los Angeles. The story unfolds over the course of a week in September of 2010, during which the women share secrets about their lives and yearnings.

This story is told through the eyes of a young woman searching for her identity and path. The play resonates with all women and focuses on immigration, body image, and gender expectations. Both light and serious, it explores the bonds created through survival, friendship, and family.

Soma Mnemosine

A production from Teatro La Candelaria

Soma Mnemosine was a performance art piece collectively created and directed by Patricia Ariza that explored the dual manifestation of joy and pain in the humanbody which converges through the bodies of the actors during the party ambience and contextual violence rampant in Colombia today. With themes of recurring entry ways, inevitably arriving through different pathways: individual-personal-body and the social-body, both subjected to the violence but hopelessly seeking refuge inside the celebration as an act of defiance. In The Heights

A collaborated production with The Ordway Center for Performing Arts

Before Hamilton, there was In the Heights, the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood—a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams, and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions to take with you and which to leave behind.

Here’s both drama and music—as The Story of Ferdinand is brought to life by Teatro del Pueblo. This beloved children’s book by Munro Leaf tells the story of a bull who would rather smell flowers than fight in bullfights. Also on the program: the Orchestra performed selections from Bizet’s lively Carmen suite as well as Mozart’s famous Jupiter symphony. Visit the Minnesota Orchestra for details about this fantastic music experience.
