Help Wanted is a one-act play based on the true story of a family of impoverished immigrants who came to Minnesota in search of a better life and means to help their family in Mexico. The play demonstrates the plight of workers who risk harsh treatment and inequalities when trying to find work, and addresses the issues of immigration and workers' rights through satire. Presented in English with some Spanish. This unique presentation will include a facilitated talk-back after the performance about and around DACA. Each performance is between 50-55 minutes and a 20-30 minute talkback. Coco's Barrio: Dia de los Muertos

Welcome to Coco’s barrio where dogs bark Spanish lullabies and gatos meow “al son”. Come celebrate “Dia de los Muertos” with Coco and her neighbors where the dead and the living share memories of days gone by. Coco’s Barrio is a live bilingual radio broadcast which blends social political humor with Latin American music and traditions.

Coco's Dia de los Muertos

Escúchame "listen to me" weaves together six different accounts from visitors to Puerto Rico- their experiences as well as their lasting impact to the Island.  Featuring a mosaic of characters such as Christopher Columbus,  Charles Herbert Allen, a LDS Mission kid, and the Taíno goddess of storms Guabancex.  This action-packed solo performance incorporates Commedia mask, traditional songs, and commercial breaks.  Made possible through funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant.

El Apagón/The Blackout

A Play from Pregones Theater

While riding the New York subway uptown from Brooklyn to El Barrio, and eager to witness the birth of his firstborn, a Puerto Rican factory worker and his best friend, Trompoloco, are caught in the Great Northeastern Blackout of 1965. The play revels at their enduring good humor, and their courage, while revealing their complex views about their role at home, the women around them, the hope for their firstborn and their identity as a working class citizen. In an uninterrupted interaction with the audience, the actors take over each other’s roles as their characters learn lifelong lessons from the unexpected: the darkness and the stars.

Coco's Barrio showcases the power of Latinx artists with humor, drama, and music. In this episode, we'll join our sister radio station at the Tijuana border to learn what money can do to make a beautiful wall. Witness a revolution! Embark on a musical adventure with wonderful Latin American music. Coco's Barrio: Cinco de Mayo is sure to delight you.

Welcome to Coco’s barrio! From the Creative Arts High School in St. Paul, join us for a live bilingual radio broadcast of Coco’s Barrio. A satirical cross between SNL and Prairie Home Companion, Coco’s Barrio showcases the power of Latinx artists with humor, drama and lots of music. Our host, Coco, will again take us on a stroll through her barrio, where dogs bark Spanish lullabies and gatos meow “al son” Latino. Coco will reminisce about past experiences and look ahead to her future endeavors. Embark on a musical adventure with our musical guest (and house band) Alma Andina and special guest Mestifonía. Directed by Alberto Justiniano.

Adventures of Juan

Adventures of Juan is a puppet show that tells the story of a young boy who is ashamed of his Chicano heritage. One day, while watching over his grandmother's corn, he embarks on a journey to save the garden with mythical figures from North and Central America, like Paul Bunyan and Quetzalcoatl. With the help of these figures, he learns a greater appreciation for his culture. Show is 20 minutes long with a meet and greet with the puppet after the show.
