Real Women Have Curves

Teatro del Pueblo and Lyric Arts Theater present Real Women Have Curves, a poignant production about family, friendship, and latinidad.

Our June 2022 production of Real Women Have Curves told the story of a group of multi-generation Latina women who work in a sewing factory in Los Angeles. The story unfolds over the course of a week in September of 2010, during which the women share secrets about their lives and yearnings.

This story is told through the eyes of a young woman searching for her identity and path. The play resonates with all women and focuses on immigration, body image, and gender expectations. Both light and serious, it explores the bonds created through survival, friendship, and family.

Written by Josefina Lopez and directed by Adlyn Carreras and Lelis Brito, we were so happy for you all to meet our delightful cast and watch their talents across the stage.

This production was a humorous and warmhearted look at a Mexican-American teenage girl coming of age in a boiling cauldron of cultural expectations, marked by the issues of gender politics and the Latina immigrant experience. The story follows the course of a week, as women talk about their lives, loves and deepest desires while attempting to meet impossible production deadlines.
